Imamate in Islamic Thought

527 students

“Imamate in Islamic Thought”  is an online course which examines one of the core doctrines of Shia Islam. Shia Muslims believe divine leadership (imamate) to be one of the five principles of religion while Sunni Muslims regard it as a branch rather than a ‘principle’ of religion. In this course students will gain a deeper appreciation for the different perspectives on the issue of succession to the Prophet by analyzing the relevant Quranic verses and prophetic traditions. While Sunni Islam might regard succession to be a historical matter, for Shias, succession to the Prophet is a cornerstone of theology and religious practice.
