About this course
Study the rulings of fasting according to the Jaʿfari school, beginning with the meaning of ṣawm, its purpose and its merits. The lessons then examine the conditions surrounding a fast, including the start of an Islamic month, the day of doubt, residence, travel and ritual purity.
From there, the course considers intention and the acts discussed in the laws of fasting, alongside the circumstances in which a person is exempt. The closing lessons turn to missed fasts, kaffāra, fidya and zakat al-fitra, connecting the rules of observing a fast with questions that arise before and after it.
